Configuring Mozilla Thunderbird 1.5 for Windows

Creating a new email account

Please follow the instructions below. Make sure your settings match those in the pictures and your email should be up and running very quickly. (Obviously replace "username" with your user name and "yourdomain.com" with your actual domain name.)

1. From the Tools pull-down menu select the Account Settings ... Option

2. Click on the Add Account... button in the bottom-left of the window ...

3. The Account Wizard will open. Select the Email account radio button and click on Next >

4. Enter your full name in the Your Name: box and email address in the Email address: box and click on Next >

5. The incoming mail server is a POP3 server.

Enter yourdomain.com into both the Incoming Server: and the Outgoing Server: boxes. The domain is everything after the '@' symbol in your email address.

Click on Next >

6. Enter your username in to the Incoming User Name: box

Click on Next >

7. Enter an account name in the Account Name field. This is only used within Thunderbird to distinguish between various email accounts that you may have setup. The default should be fine. Click on Next > then click on Finish on the summary page.

8. Next, you need to ensure that 2 of the settings are correct, so follow the instructions below. Failure to follow these instructions accounts for 90% of all the support calls we receive.

Select the Outgoing Server (SMTP) item at the bottom of the list on the left. Then, click on the Edit... button on the right.

9. Change the Outgoing Server (SMTP): to 5190.

Why?? Many ISP's have started to block the relaying of email through the default port 25. Using this alternative port allows you to send email via your Radical Webs email account. This setting accounts for almost 90% of all support calls so please make sure you have yours set correctly.

Also, make sure that the checkbox for Use name and password under the Security and Authentication section IS CHECKED!

Here is a list of some of the major ISPs Blocking the relaying of email through Port 25

AT&T
BellSouth
CableOne
Charter
Comcast ATTBI

10. Click on Ok, then Ok again to close the Account Settings window.

11. Click on the Get Mail button and you should receive any email waiting in your mail box.
