Email Configuration
Configuring Versamail on the Palm
These instructions are for Versamail configuration. which ships
with most current Palm devices. Older devices will provide Multimail.
1. Create an account

- Choose Account Setup under the Accounts menu

- The screen will show the accounts already set up ( if any ) and
give you the opportunity to create a New one. You can also
Edit or delete accounts from this dialog box.

- The screen left shows an example value for Account Name. Choose
the values shown for Mail Service and Protocol.
- If you are using cable connection, ensure that Synchronise Only Account is
checked.
- If you will make a wireless connection, leave Synchronise Only Account unchecked.

- Supply the username and password for the email account you want
to access.

- Supply your email address and the server details exactly
as shown left.

2. Additional Mail Options
- The following screens will allow you to customise how the email
account operates. As, in this example, the account will operate through
HotSync, the amount of data tranferred has little impact on performance.
If you are configuring Versamail for a wireless account, either on
a Palm mobile device or by coupling a Palm device with a mobile phone,
you may need to restrict the amount of email data received.
- You can choose to transfer unread mail only to minimise data
transfer.
- It is very useful to delete messages on the server when
delete on the handheld as this keeps both inboxes synchronised.
- In
this example if a message is larger than 5kb, it will not be
transferred to the Palm device.

- Specify the name that you wish to appear in the From filed of
your recipient's email.
- You can send a BCC to another address to track emails sent.

- Use this area to type the signature which will be attached to all
emails you send.

- Check authentication for outgoing email.
- If you have problems sending email using Port 25 try using Port
5190.
- Finally tap Done.

- The Versamail screen reappears showing the contents
of the Inbox.

- Tap New to be presented with the email composition window.

- Note when you compose an email message, you have the option to save
it to the Drafts or the Outbox folder. If you save
it to the Outbox folder, it will be sent next time you
carry out a HotSync operation or connect via other means.
- Message listed in the Outbox folder, awaiting the next email
synchronisation.

- Within Versamail, you can further customise by, for example,
changing the display options, adding filters, changing folders,
etc.
- If you will connect via a wireless connection, Versamail configuration
is complete.
